Sir Donald McLean said that he could not vote for the 40s, as it would wipe out the whole scheme, but lie favoured a 20s bonus. Sir Edward Carson and others urged the Government to increase the benefit to 20s.
Mr Macnamara consented, and Mr Clynes withdrew his amendment.
