CABLE CONTROVERSY

Advices received in olllcial circles indicate LliuL the Netherlands has now become a party to the Yap controversy. Une e»ble line connects Monade, m Dutch East Indies, with Yap and Holland is reported to have addressed a request to .Japan, asking for possession of this cable. It is underst .1 that Japan has replied, proposing joint ownership, but Holland has reiterated her request for outright and exclusive possession. The International Communications Conference will probably settle the matter.
It is understood that Japan objects to the association of the controversy concerning Yap with the question ol Hie distribution oi' cables, and it is believed ihat she will insist thai any new modus operandi which the Communication Conference may agree upon should be applied only to cables.
