* MATAMATA BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Matamata Branch or the N.Z. Farmers' Union was held tiiis week, Mr 11. Hollett I,president) occupying the chair. Railway Facilities. Arising oat of a request of the Town Board for Lhe branch's co-operation in approaching the Railway Department for improved facilities at the Matamata railway station, the members were unanimous in asking that the original entrance to the station from Tower road through the trees be reopened. It was stated that the gale at present in use for ingress and egress, although recently widened, was still dangerous. In view of the fact that the Depart. ment was installing extra railway trucks, it was decided to request that the erection of an overhead bridge or subway be proceeded with at once. Police Residence. The branch was also in accord with the Town Board on the question of the necessity for a constable's residence in the town, and also that the constable be appointed clerk of tire Court. Members were of the opinion that, pending the erection or the purchase of a house, an office should be secured and a telephone installed. It was decided to write to the Police Department on the matter. Veterinary Lecture. The secretary was instructed to-keep in touch with Dr. Burton, veterinary surgeon, witli a view to the latter delivering a lecture on the diseases in cattle at an early date.
