SOUTH AFRICAN ELECTIONS
MR MASSEY'S CONGRATULATIONS. GENERAL SMUTS' REPLY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. On receiving the news of the result of the South African elections Mr Massey telegraphed Genera] Smuts:—"New Zealand heartily congratulates you upon the splendid results of the South African elections. It is not only a personal triumph, bill an emphatic endorsement of a united Empire policy." General Smuts has replied: "I am very grateful for your kind congratulations. The dominant issue in the elections was secession from the Empire, and the result is therefore of general imperial signilleance."
