m ■ Rev. Howard has been elected president of the New South Wales Methodist Conference. The death Is announced from Sydney of Hon. John Garland, M.L.C.. who was Solicitor-General In the Holman Ministry. Hon. A. M. Myers, of Auckland, has arrived at San Francisco on his return to the Dominion from a tour of Eagland and America, and will sail for New Zealand on March 3. Mr Haywood H. McDougall, representing the Daily Telegraph, Napier, was in Hamilton to-day. He paid a visit to the Ruakura Farm of Instruction during the afternoon. Prior to leaving Cambridge to attend the Methodist Conference at Wellington, Rev. J. D. McArthur was presented with a sum of money by the members of the congregation, who expressed the hope that he would have a pleasant holiday. Mr McArthur suitably acknowledged the gift and expressions of goodwill. Mr H. W. Bundel has been appointed to the Magistracy. lie was admitted in 1904, and practised in Lawrence and Dunedin. He served with the Imperial Forces from 191 Gto 191%, and is now practising at Palmerston North. At the annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association, in Wellington, the president referred to the death of Mr R. Gwynne, of the Waikato Times, Hamilton, news of whose death had just been received. He was formerly a very regular member, and one who always took a keen interest in its welfare. A vote of condolence was passed, all members standing. Prior to leaving the Dannevirke contest for their home, members' of the Hamilton Municipal Rand, who stayed at the Club Hotel, in appreciation of the treatment extended to them by the host and hostess, Mr and Mrs C. W. Merrylees, presented them with an enlarged framed photograph of the band, suitably inscribed. The presentation was made on behalf of the band by Drum-Major Smith, and suitably acknowledged by the recipients.
