IN SOUTH PACIFIC ISLANDS. UNDER BRITISH MANDATES. & (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received February 6, 5.5 p.m. TOKIO, February 5. Mochizukl demanded information from the Government during the debate in the diet on the differences between Japan and Britain relative to the administration of tiie ex-German islands in the Pacific south of the Equator. He referred to Viscount Uchida's statement to the Diet that Britain maintained that the Versailles Treaty clause did iiot apply to the South Sea Islands. Japan took a contrary view, but tentatively accepted the British theory reserving the right to resume negotiations and insist upon Japanese rights in the inlands wherever Britain was given a mandate.
