SITUATION IN IRELAND
o DAYLIQHT ROBBERY IN DUBLIN. ENCOUNTERS WITH SINN FEINERS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable AMU.) Received February i, 3.10 p.m. LONDON. February 3. Two armed men held up a railway paymaster of the Dublin South-eastern Railway when driving in a cab in the daytime, and took over £3OOO at, the revolver point. The robbers escaped. Later details of the Skibbcreen incident, show that at least 400 Sinn Fciners were engaged. They took away six dead comrades in a boat, and '2O Sinn Feiners were wounded. Details of the Ballinalea affray show that two cars carrying auxiliary police were blown up, five being killed and eight, severely wounded, only three escaping. These put. up a stubborn tight against the ainbushers, numbering 60, but were compelled to surrender. Fortunately, reinforcements of police arrived, putting to flight the Sinn Fciners, of whom it is believed that eight or ten were wounded.
POLICE LORRIES AMBUSHED
NINE POLICEMEN KILLED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received February i, 8.5 p.m. LONDON, February 3. Two lorries carrying police were ambushed on the main road between Bromkeen and .New Pallas. They passed through a line of (Ire. The official list (if casualties shows that nine police were kHled and two wounded.
