MORRINSVILLE DtSTGtCT. Kiwituhi Hall. Considerable interest attached to the opening of the new hall at Kiwitahi a few evenings ago. The hall, which has been erected with money subscribed by the setllers, stands in the centre of the settlement on the main Kiwitahi I'ftad. The hall lias a floor space of /,oft by ItOfl, and attached is a leanto with ladies’ and men's dressing rooms. The weather on the evening of j the opening function was not good, but ' in spite of this over a hundred were ; present. The hall had been decorated with nikau and punga, roses and white flowers, and in the midst of this were ! suspended ten magnificent deer heads, ■ five of which Were royals. The hall 1 was officially opened by Lieut.-Colonel ; It. C. Allen, D. 5.0., who said the people | of Kiwitahi were to be strongly congratulated on their decision to erect (lie hall, lie expressed the hope that many happy functions organised in the distriel of Kiwitahi would he held in the hall. Dancing followed until a late hour, and a hapy lime was spent. Tho Train Services. Many Walton people do llieir business in Hamilton, although they have to pass Morrinsville on Iheir way and .journey over 20 miles past MprrinsvilD' lo reach Hamilton. Impiiries made among Hie setllers elicited the information that Hie I rain service does j not suit. The complaint made was j that, the train service not only left j little time b> do business in Morrinsj villc, lull was erratic. The express is (of no service, and if the passenger ! wishes (o travel on Hint train to Walton he has (,o book beyond Mint station. What is needed is In give Morrinsville direct, road a between the two points, and an improved train service. A move was made some time ago to construct a road parallel with Hie railway line from Kiwitahi to Morrinsville, hul nothing lias been done in connection with the pro.jret recently. War Memorial. The period for Hie canvass for €2OOO in connection with Hie proposed Morrinsville War Memorial, closed on Saturday. So far Hie secretary (Mr W. H. S. Lindsay) has not received complete lists from Hie country canvassers, and is unable to say how the campaign has succeeded. Another gentleman who has taken a prominent part in the campaign is of Hie opinion that up to the present life total received and promised is over £1(100. Methodist Bazaar. A successful bazaar was held by the Indies of the .Methodist Church on Friday afternoon. There was a large attendance, and patrons had a large selection of material and goodj to choose from. There was an exhibition of flowers and vegetables. The entries were numerous, and there was considerable merit in some classes. The peas ( vegetables) were exceptionally good for Ibis time of Iho year. Over £OO was realised at the bazaar. NGAHINEPOURI-TUHIKARAMEA. Farming Operations. Most of the sheep farmers are busy shearing, but as there is such a poor outlook for wool, it is not a—very encouraging jolt. The lambs appear to be doing very well, there being some exceptionally good ones Hus season. Show Successes. Mi- N. Reid won a number of prizes at the Waikato Show for lambs, and again at the Auckland Show he won two firsts, two seconds, one third and one highly commended; so it says a good deal for the district when it can turn out lambs to win most of the prizes at the large shows. Pastimes. As last Saturday was such a fine day a good number of players turned up at the tennis courts, and next Saturday our club will play the Koromatua club, and should the day prove fine we are looking forward to a very pleasant afternoon. RUAWARO. Farmers’ Union. At the last meeting of Hie Iluntly West branch of the N.Z.F.U. Messrs T. Bain, A. Sharp ami A. Braider were accepted as members. There was considerable discussion about the new scheme for metalling the roads in the Pukemiro riding. Mr Broughton outlined the scheme, as proposed by Hie Council, The feeling of Hie meeting seemed to he strongly in favour of it being carried out. Tennis Club. A meeting of the tenuis club was recently held, when it was decided that (he courts should be put into working order as soon as possible. The secretary gave a report of the number of subscriptions received and the amount of money paid out for (he levelling of the courts, etc. Members who have not paid their subscriptions are now invited to do so, and what coney is still required is to he raised by a levy on members unless it can be obtained by means of dances, which are to be got up by the committee. Proposed Sports Meeting. Sports are to he held on December 3 t in Mrs Mount’s paddock, and is it hoped that there will he a good muster and good competition for Hie various prizes, for which a good deal of money has been subscribed in the district.
