A JUDGE'S PITY
YOUNG MAN'S DEGENERATION. THREE YEARS IN BORSTAL HOME. A young man named George Graham was charged before Sir Robert Stout at the Supreme Court, Hamilton, yesterday, with committing an indecent assault. Prisoner, who was obviously of weak intellect, was found guilty, the jury putting in a plea for special treatment in lieu of a term in gaol. His Hvnor sentenced prisoner to three years' reformative detention in the Borstal institution at Invercargill. He told him that he would be looked after there and would have a chance to become mentally strong again. There was evidence that prisoner was addicted t<> vicious practices, and if allowed to be free he would surely end up in the asylum. His Honor added that he felt extremely sorry for prisoner, and coulJ not have done more for him had he been a relative of his own.
