A PRIEST ARRESTED
CHARGED WITH THEFTS. In the arrest of a priest attached to the Church of < St. Anne in Paris the police believe they have caught one of tiie muster minds of the band of automobile bandits wtio have been terrorising the city and who recently murdered Police Inspector Girot. The priest is Abbe Gaetano Consiglio. who has been attached to various Paris parishes for many years, although he is Italian by birth. He was arrested after the automobile which had been stolen a few hours previously in the Avenue Periere was taken to the garage of M: Fontaine In the Avenue des Gobelins by a man who said he had brought it at the request of the priest, According to Fontaine, the priest appeared a few hours later and made inquiries as to means of disposing of the car. After the priest went away, the police, who] had been searching garages for the stolen car, found it at Fontaine's, learned from him the account uf the priest's call, and made the'arrest Abbe Consiglio denied Fontaine's story, saying he had gone to the garage to buy some fittings for another car. He professed complete ignorance of the man who had left the car at the garage, and said he could not understand why his name had been used. * lip. now lies in Sante Prison. The police say they have reasons to believe that his arrest will clear up many other recent thefts of automobiles and possibly lead to definite clues to the murder of Inspector Girot.
