WAITETUNA-RAGLAN. Football Dance. The Waitetuna Football Club tendered a complimentary dance to the young ladies of Waitetuna, which was held in the schoolroom on Friday, 26th ult., which proved a most enjoyable function. It being a moonlight night there was a large attendance. Concert at Te Uku. A concert was recently held in the Te Uku Schoolroom in aid of the public hall, which was fairly well attended. It i? expected that the hall will be completed in about a month's time. Raglan's War Memorial. The new idea for a soldiers' memorial at Raglan is to take the form of a cenotaph in an enclosure in some prominent place in the town. At a meeting recently held, Rev. C. B. W. Steton was elected president, with Mr G. G. Griffiths as secretary and Mr S. Pe'lham treasurer, supported by a strong committee. Geological Survey. A survey party is now occupied in making a geological survey of the Raglan district, and it is expected that this will take about three months to complete. MATAMATA. Resignation of Minister. At last Sunday afternoon's service in St. Andrew's Church, Rev'. R. W. Jaskson tendered his resignation as Minister of the charge, and expressed the desire that it should take effect at the close of next month. The notice of the above will come' before the Waikato Presbytery in due course. Mr Jackson has been resident Presbyterian Minister at Matamata for the past four years. When he took over the charge there was no gate to the Manse, only an old chaff sack wound round the barbed wire of the fence indicated where an entrance might be made if due caution was observed. This was 300 n remedied. The previous Minister's salary was in arrears to the extent of £SO when he resigned. Soon after the settlement of Mr Jackson this debt was faced and wiped out. There was also a considerable debt on the Manse. A Ladies' Guild was formed, and by their zeal and good management a sale of work was carried through with marked success, and with the general help of the out-sta-tions the whole of the debt of the Church property vanished. On a recent date the Ladies' Guild was reformed, and. set to work to raise money for Church and Manse improvements. After six weeks' diligence, a jumble sale of work for one day was held in the Town Hall. The effort was most successful, and after paying all expenses the treasurer of the . Guild has placed in the bank over £2ooJor the improvements indicated. The success would have been impossible but. for tho hearty and liberal support of the other Churches in the town. When Mr Jackson may leave Matamata he will have the satisfaction of Knowing that not a farthing of debt remains on the Church and Manse he has vacated, and that he will carry with him the best wishes of the poople of the whole community. ■ ■ —, ■ < WAHAROA. /SCHOOL MATTERS. An extraordinary meeting of the School Committee was held on Friday evening, when Messrs Blyth (chairman), Bruce, Smith (hon. secretary), and Doull (head teacher) were present. Details in connection with the forthcoming picnic were arranged. The head teacher reported that suh'scriptions totalling £2l had been received. Special prizes for regular attendance have been donated by Mr and Mrs Whlttington and by Messrs Blyth and Smith for the most popular boy and girl. Mr W. J. Munro, Instructor in Agriculture under the Board of Education, paid a visit of inspection to the school on Ist inst ■ Cricket Match.

At the annual meeting of the Waharoa Cricket Club the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— Patron, Hon. Sir W. H, Herries; president, Mr E. J. King; vice-presidents, Messrs R. Hetherington, D. McMillan, H. Casey, J. S. Doull, A. J. Tova, R. Tuck, A. K. Weeks, T). Bruce, J. C. Smith, D. McAuley, W. Newsome J. Blyth, J. Kirk, F. Wright, J. Thompson ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr F. W. Pitts. The first'match of the season was played on the 4th inst. on the Waharoa Domain, when the local team met the Gordon team, suffering defeat by seven runs. In the first innings Gordon compiled a score of 43 runs, Waharoa responding with a total of 36. For tlie winners, Gauntlett topped the score with J 7 runs, Orr being the next highest witli 9. Garner (9) made the top score for Waharoa. Montague Bros, were the successful bovvlers for Gordon, capturing all the wickets, while Porteous and Bartleet were the successful trundlers for the losing side. Both teams were hospitably entertained at lunch and afternoon tea by the Waharoa ladies. A Presentation.

A pleasant little function took place at Mr J. Ryan's residence, Turanga-o-Moana, on 2nd inst., when a deputation of members of the Waharoa Athletic Club waited on that gentleman for the purpose of making him a presentation in recognition of his service for many years as secretary of the Waharoa Athletic Club, and in honour of lu's recent marriage. The presentation, which took the form of a handsome l'ose bowl, was made by Mr A. J. Long, who, in felicitous terms, referred to the valuable service Mr Ryan had rendered to the Athletic Club. Mr Ryan suitably responded.
