DISTRICT NEWS
TAUPIRI. FAREWELL SOCIAL. Mr and Mrs A. E. Penney, who have sold their general store husiness, were the recipients of a farewell social in the Taupiri Hall. As showing the esteem in which the quests were held there was a large and representative attendance, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Mr W. A. Joll, on behalf of the "'isidents, spoke of the loss sustained by the departure of Mr and Mrs Penney, and-presented them with a set of fish servers as a small token of the genera! esteem in which they were held. "Auld Lang Syne" was then sung by all present. Euchre Party and Dance.
A very pleasant euchre and dance evening was held in thp hall on Friday, 12th inst., when, despite the incleme :t weather, a fair crowd attended. The last ol the series will be held in a few weeks' time, and much interest is being taken in the result of the aggregate prize.
