Mr H. Vickerman, inspecting engineer of the Public Works Department. has resigned from the service. Major James R. Boose, travelling correspondent of the Royal Colonial Institute, is to visit Australia and New Zealand on behalf of the Institute. 1 he Governor-General Viscount Jellicoe, accompanied by Lady Jellicoe, will pay his first vice-regal visit to Auckland on October 30. Mr G. T. Murray, who has been district engineer in charge of the Auckland Public Works district for the last four years, has been promoted to Uie position of inspecting engineer to the department, with headquarters at Wellington. He will be succeeded by Mr A. J. Baker, district engineer at Dunedin. A cablegram from London reports the death of Mr Charles Alexander, the well-known evangelist, at the age of 53 years. In 1902-1906 Mr Alexander made an evangelistic tour of the world with the Rev. R. A. Torrey. In 1906-07 he made his second world tour with his wife. He was the compiler of the famous “Alexander hymns,”
