BOROUGH COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING. The Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, presided over a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last night. There were also present Crs. Tidd, McKinnon, Barton, Brind. Snell, Lafferty, Harp, Gruir and Lowry. Cr. Mason was grantee leave of obsence. Messrs Swarbrick and Swarbrick asked the Council's consent to the surrender of two leases of part section 407 E, and to the issue of new leases. — Granted, the rental of each new lease to be £3 for the balance of the current term. The matter of the sewerage of tb.3 Waikato Hotel was the subject of a report from the sanitary inspector, and after some discussion the matter was left in the hands of the Inspector, chairman of the Works Committee and Cr. McKinnon.

Mr R. Burrow called attention to the great growth of gorse In Willoughby street.—Referred to the Works Committee. The Hamilton Carriers' Association asked the Council last night to be allowed to have a stand on the western side of Alma street, instead of In Alexandra street, as proposed.—The recommendation was approved. Mr A. Booth, Campbell street, Frankton, drew attention to the insanitary state of the drain in that street.—Referred to Works Committee. Legal and Finance Committee. Present: Mayor (Mr J. R. Sims re Dr Brewis' Opoia land: Recommended that as the existing subdivisions, are, in the opinion of the committee, small enough for the locality, the application be not granted.— Carriers' Association, re stands, etc.: Recommended that water troughs be provided as requested In Bryce Street and at corner of Main and High Streets and that the turncock report on the position in regard to the three Waipa troughs.—Recommended that the suggestion in reference to the letters **H.B.C." on carts be approved.—Swarbrick and Swarbrick re lease of part 407 East: Recommended that the application be granted, the rental of each new lease to be £3 per annum for the balance of the current term. —Extension of right of way for R. P. Hill: Recommended that the application be granted on the same condition on which the right of way was granted previously.—Dunedin City Council, re raising loan: Recommended that the proposals of the City Council be approved. •—B. R. Finlay re drain at Frankton: Recommended that permission be granted to make the temporary connection asked for, provided the interests of the Council are properly safeguarded.
