VISIT OF ENGLISH TEfifA. NEXT WEEK’S LOCAL GAME. The leant of English League footballers, who arc <o play several games in the Dominion, reached Auckland jesterday by the Maheno from Sydney. The opening game will take place on Saturday against thirteen Auckland representatives. On the following Wednesday the Englishmen will play at Hamilton, this game to be succeeded on Saturday week, by the first test game against New Zealand, at Auckland. The team to oppose England at' Steele Park is comprised of Lower Waikato and King Country players. The side, which is expected (o give a good account of itself, have gone into training at Taupiri for practically a week, and, with the assistance of a leading Auckland coa ( ch, arc expected to thoroughly work up their combination and tactics for the coming struggle. A local committee has been set up to make-arrangements for the fixture. On the evening of the match a conference will be held at Hamilton, at which various important matters affecting the game will be discussed. LOWER WAIKATO v. KING COUNTRY At Huntly on Saturday the star attraction was the match King Country League versus Lower Waikato, for the much-coveted Endean Challenge Shield. After a hard and fast game Lower Waikato were victorious by 15 points to 7. for the victors tries were secured by I. Littlewood, D. Johnson and M. Allen, while Tumalc Mahuta kicked three good goals. For King Country S. Logan secured a try, while goals were kicked by N. Rogers and S. Doran. In the scrum work the visitors wore superior and hooked the ball cleanly, but their backs on the whole .were patchy and lacked combined work. The Lower Waikato backs were superior, and should have scored more frequently hut for the fact that they were repeatedly penalised for taking passes off-side (through over-eagerness) in the combined passing rushes. Mr Ripley, of Auckland, handled the whistle. The match created great enthusiasm among the crowd of over 1500 spectators. As a curtain-raiser Huntly juniors piayed Horotiu, strengthened by the inclusion of some of the Ngaruawahia team, Horotiu eventually winning by '■ points to 8. For the winners tries v.ere scored by Funny, Zimmerman, and' Kcepa. For Huntly S. Rayner scored two tries and kicked a goal.
