NEGOTIATIONS IN LANCASHIRE. (Australian ajd N.Z. Cable Assn.) LOXDOX, May 12. Mr J. E. Hunter, Agent-General for Queensland, will proceed to Manchester or. Frdiay, to negotiate in regard to rotton growing in Queensland. This I has been the subject of correspondence for some months, Lancashire being particularly anxious to extend the sources of supply nf raw cotton in view <>f tin' increasing demands for Hi.' American and Egyptian crops. The Chambers of Commerce have now invited Mr Hunter to discuss definite details. it is pointed oul tiiat a hig enterprise in cotton-growing in connection with soldier settlements and otherwise is only justified if the present high prices of cotton continue or the Lancashire brokers, spinners and others guaranteed ■the purchase of the output at a fixed price over a period of years. Experiments conducted by the Imperial institute and Manchester Chamber of Commerce showed that Queensland cotton was of a good marketable quality.
