SHEEP STEALING. FINE OF £ 12T. IMPOSED. (By Telegraph.-—Press Association.} DUNEDIN, Friday. AI the Supreme Court Adam Murdoch McDonald, manager of the Onnaglade station, near Hoxborough. was charged With the theft of some 00 sheep from neighbouring owners. The evidence went to show that the earmarks of sheep straying on to the onnaglade station had been tampered with. After a lengthy retirement the jury ■returned with flic verdict of guilty, with a very strong recommendation to merry. .Uisticc Sim said in view of the circumstances and the jury’s recommendation, a pecuniary penalty would meet the case, and imposed a fine of £125. IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION. WELLINGTON, Thursday. Mr Massey, addressing the Education Conference to-day, said that nothing was more important than education. The rising generation of youngsters was worthy of the best education the country could give them. Overseas visitors during the Prince’s visit were much impressed, not only with the physique, but the intelligence of New Zealand children.
