RETURNED SOLDIER’S DEATH. By Telegraph—Pres* Association. AUCKLAND, Friday. At Hie inquest, on the body of Colonel Whitmore, of Hastings, a returned soldier, the evidence showed Hint deceased entered a shooting gallery, and got a loaded rifle. When Hie attendant was looking at the target lie ! heard a shot, and turned round when j he found Whitmore with a wound in \ his abdomen which might have been 1 accidental. Deceased, on his way to j the hospital, asked if that was so, and replied yes. A verdict of accidental death was returned. A LITTLE GIRL KILLED. WHANGAREI, Friday. Madge Finch, the (Ivc-year-oid daughter of Mr R. S. Finch, surveyor, was killed instantly on the,Mill road. When emerging from behind a motor car she was struck by the splashboard of another car, driven by l)i*Campbell, who did his utmost to avoid a collision. ACCIDENT ENDS FATALLY. DANNEVIRKE, Friday. William J. Wiseman, who was caught up in the belting and whirled round a shaft'at the Dannevirko Woodwork Company's factory on Tuesday morning, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. V A NARROW ESCAPE. GRBYMOUTH, Friday. Yesterday a party consisting of Mr and Mrs J. Park and infant and Mrs Poschtch were coming to Barrytown to attend the Prince’s welcome when Hie trap capsized at I’en-milc Greek, a dangerous portion of the road, and the party had a narrow escape from drowning. 'Pile gear was washed to son, and the party lost a large sum of money. Frequent representations have been made to the Government as to the necessity for bridging the creek, which has been the scene of many serious accidents.
