HAMILTON LADIES’ CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

At the annual meeting of the Hamilton Ladies’ Golf Club, owing to the unavoidable absence of Mrs Gillies, Mrs W. 11. Hume took the .chair. There was a good attendance of members and intending members.

Miss Ring presented the balancesheet, which showed a credit balance on the work of the year.

Mrs Hume read rhe secretary’s report as follows: "I think you will agree the club had a successful year. The principal event was the Open Championship meeting held in October. This, attracted record entries from all parts of the Dominion, Miss Wright, champion of New Zealand winning the Open Championship and holds the Ellis Cup for a year. As a result of this tournament the sum of £l6 was handed to the men’s golf club. The visitors to Hamilton for the tournament were entertained right well at a conversazione in the Theatre Royal Tearooms, and another evening at a jolly party given by Mrs Douglas in the Nurses’ Home. The visiting golfers were delighted with the links. Mrs Hay again won the championship, Mrs Walshe the Gillies Vase, and Miss Furze the Douglas Cup. This year a record number of new members are joining the club, both honorary and playing members. It must be obvious to those present to-nigfit that for a successful season a strong working committee is most necessary. A strong working committee that will take a keen interest in the club and attend the meetings would be a great asset to the club. It is a matter of regret that junior players have not been as enthusiastic as they might have. It is hoped that new members will not. be satisfied until! they have earned their L.G.U. handicaps. Towards the end of last season all the members of the club were entertained by Mrs Douglas at a most enjoyable day on the links. Mrs Hay was the hostess at an afternoon tea when the trophies won duping the season were presented by Mrs Gillies. I trust that all the members will vie with each other to uphold the prestige of the Hamilton Ladies’ Golf Club.” The following officers were elected: President, Mrs 11. T. Gillies: vice-pre-sidents, Mesdanies .1. W. Ellis, Fowler, E. B. Heywood, W. H. Huime, Pillar, A. J. Storey; captain, Mrs Douglas; vicecaptain, Mrs Hay; hon. treasurer, Miss Wilkinson; hon. secretary, Mrs Stevens ; committee, Mesdanies Carter, Tudhope, Misses D. Brewis, Rimmer and Ring. The arranging of a fixture card was left to the committee to draw up. Owing to the large number of new members the meeting approved of nursery matches. Different members handed ; n the names of intending new members, the total number being 54, which is a record for the club. As very few members have resigned the total membership of the club will be about 130. Votes of thanks to the officers of the past season and a vote of thanks to the chairwoman concluded the meeting.
