PEOPLES DAY. SPLENDID DAIRY EXHIBITION. If the spirits of the promoters of the Franklin A. and P. Association sank Friday with the miserable prospects which the teeming rain seemed to bring, they rose considerably with the Fright sunlight of Saturday, and indeed they had reason to, for the day proved a record from every standpoint. The attendance was exceedingly large, and tne presence of the Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey), the Speaker (Sir F. W. Lang), Mr C. J. Parr, and several other members of Parliament, added to the general success of the day. There was really very little for the pudges to do on Saturday, as they completed the bulk of their work the previous day. The ring events were, of course, the chief attraction, and there was some very good jumping, 1 hough the light horses, while present in large numbers, were not what could la? describe on the whole as a first grade lot. The harness classes were pood, and the few draughts that were there were of excellent quality. As a cattle show, however, the exhibition at Pukekohe would be to beat, especially the Jersey section, which was the outstanding feature of the show, and which was really a splendid exhibition, both of numbers and quality. The pigs were largely the property of Mr E. J. Rogers and his son, Mr A. Rogers, though the Ruakura Farm scored well where it essayed to compete. The "*>m<n of Franklin, like their sisters* of Waikato, are thoroughly domesticated, and the keenness of their interest in the work of the household — of the pantry and the sewing room at anv rate—was displayed bv the very large entries and the splendid work in the Home Industries section.
