FIRE AT A FOUNDRY. (By Telegraph.-—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The pattern shop and contents at Cable's foundry at Kalwarra, including many years' accumulation of patterns, were totally destroyed by fire early this morning. The cause of the lire is a mystery. The insurance On the building and contents was £2OOO in the Queensland ofiice. FIRE AT TARADALE. NAPIER, Wednesday. Tlie Hawke's Bay -Motor Co.'s branch stables at Taradale, the Taradale Hotel, Glennip's storeroom and, sheds, and a cottage owned by Paul Hawkins, were totally destroyed by fire early this morning A favourable change of wind at an opportune moment resulted in half the township being saved, as no water supply was available. The stables were insured for £IOOO in the Roval Exchange, Hawkins' cottage for o2()0, and the hotel stables for £4OO in the Norwich Union. Glennip was uninsured as far as the destroyed outbuildings were concerned. The latter also lost 60 cords of firewood, four tons of hay, and a large quantity of bran, oats, chaff, etc. The cause of the fire is unknown. DEATH ON A STEAMER. WATERSIDERS STOP WORK. NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Owing ostensibly to the death of a seaman on the Rosamond, named Win. Hall, on the passage from Wellington yesterday, the watersiders this morning refused to work either the Rosamond or Kittawa, which has partly discharged her coal. The port doctor has not definitely pronounced the cause of the man's death, and the watersiders have given notice that they will not resume till after the inquest, which is to he held this afternoon. There is no reason to suppose that death was due to an infectious disease. QUARRYMAN INJURED. BY FALL OF EARTH. PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday. While quarrying metal for the Mangahao Road in connection with tho hydro-electric works on Tuesday, a fall of earth took place, and William Jay sustained a broken leg. When he v was being attended another fall occurred, and he was further injured. Jay was admitted to the hospital at Palmerston North.
