PACIFIC MANDATES
POSITION IMPOSSIBLE FOR JAPAN. WORSE THAN UNDER GERMANY. HOPES FOR ADJUSTMENT. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Assn.) Received January 15, 9.20 a.m. LONDON, January 12. The Daily Express' "Tokio correspondent interviewed M. Hara, the Premier, who considers that the hitch regarding Australia and the Pacific Islands is easily adjustable. Japan does not object to Australia receiving the mandate, but considers the mandate's tone unsatisfactory. Japanese traders at present are treated worse than under German ownership. Japan cannot accept such a position, and hopes Great Britain will secure an amendment.
