RESIGNATION WITHDRAWN

AT REQUEST OF COUNCILLORS. Cr. Ellicott, the member for tho northern end of Hamilton riding of the Waipa County, tendered his resignation to lhat body at yesterday's meeting. Several councillors referred in appreciative terms of Cr. Ellieott’s services to the riding and the county, and made request lo Hie councillor lo withhold his decision to resign until the conclusion of the present term of office. Cr. Cavanagh characterised Cr. Elli cott as Hie best councillor the riding had ever had, and while the ratepayers might get one as good, they would never get a hotter. The chairman and Grs.’ Fullerton, Livingstone, McGhie and Beiii also added their tributes lo Cr. Ellicott, and sought his reconsideration of the decision. Cr. Ellicott thanked his fellow councillors for (heir kind references. He had been contemplating Hie step for some time. During his term of office he had performed of his best for the county and had spent many pieasureable hours with the Council members, though they did not all see eye to eye at all limes. He thought it better to resign now so as to give, the succeeding representative Hie opportunity to know the district and its needs before the end of the term. Tile requests to reconsider his decision were repeated, and Cr. Ellicott eventually consented to withdraw his resignation until Hie end of Hie term, amid the hearty applause of the councillors round the table.
