FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA
*. AN UNAUTHORISED EXPEDITION. LIEUT. PARER’S INTENTIONS. TO REDUCE ROSS SMITH’S TIME. (United Service.) Received January 11. 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 8. Lieutenants Parer and Mclntosh arc using a modified de Haviland Scout machine with a cruising speed of 85 miles. The machine weighs 38001 b fully equipped, including Hie crew. The aviators departed without official leave, because they were tired of wailing, and personally accept all the responsibility for their act. Lieut. Parer states that the sole object is to try to make Australia with a single engine under Sir Ross Smith’s time, and lie expects to roach Darwin in 24 days.
