PRINCE OF WALES' TOUR
GOVERNOR-GENERAL PROPOSAL. MANY OFFICIAL DIFFICULTIES. MAY VISIT THE WEST INDIES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received January 11, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, January 8. Official circles emphasise the groat difficulties in the way of the proposal that the Prince of Wales should act as Governor-General during his Australian visit. He desires to sec the country in the same thorough way as he saw Canada, but if Vice-regal duties devolve on him they must necessarily curtail his freedom of movenient, defeating the main object of the journey. The date of his departure has not yet been fixed, and it has not been decided whether the Prince will travel by the Suez or Panama route, but the latter is practically certain. It is likely in this event that a call will be made at the West Indies, which will be the first occasion of a Royal visit to this possession.
