MORRINSVILLE. THE HOLIDAYS. Tile annual Friendly Societies’ picnic was held on Now Year’s Day, and passed off most successfully. There was a record attendance, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. During the day a lengthy programme of sports events, principally children’s, were got off. On New Year’s Day a cricket match was played between Hamilton and Morriusville. Hamilton made 183 and 11(5, and Morrinsville 74, Hamilton thus winning hy 109 runs on the first innings. J. Pomeroy (09) and E. O. Hlaniires (-33) were top scorers for Hamilton, and H. Humphreys (22) and Chase (12) for Morrinsville. The passenger traffic at the Morrinsviilc station was very heavy during the holidays, the bookings amounting to over 5000. This is considerably in excess of previous figures. BRASS HAND. A brass band lias been formed in Morrinsville under the auspices of the Methodist Church. Over 20 members have been enrolled. THE WEATHER. Though during the holidays there were several showers, the rainfall was not sufficient to l>o of any great value. The dry spoil is seriously affecting the country, and unless there is heavy rain soon, the. prospects of winter feed arc poor. The rainfall for the year was remarkably low, being 30.70 inches against 41j09in in 1917 and 45.92 in in 1918.
