WESTFIELD MARKETS. Messrs Alfred Buokland and Sons, Ltd., report;—On Wednesday, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, our supply of beef totalled GOG head, comprising 424 steers, IG7 cows and heifers, and 17 bulls. These numbers arc only 36 less than the reord entry of December 17, 1919. There was a keen demand throughout. Choice and prime ox sold at about values equal to those quoted prior to the holidays; other classes were slightly easier. Choice ox sold to £2 15s per 1001 b, prime £2 11s to £2 13s, ordinary and plain £2 7s Gd to £2 10s, rough beef £1 18s to £2 2s; cow and heifer beef, £2 2s to £2 10s. Steers ranged in price from £8 to £23 10s for a pen of four from Mr Max Friedlander, Surrey Farm, Pokeno; cows and heifers, £6 to £l7. The highest Waikato averages for steers were:— 13 from Mr W. Vospcr Cambridge, £2O Gs; 5 cows from the same vendor, £l2 8s; 8 from Mr W. J. Ralph, Huntly, £l7 16s 3d; 18 from the Waikato, £l7 15s lid; 9 from Mr P. Potts, Ngaroto. £l6 7s 2d; 8 choice two-year-old lie efords from Mr N. S. Browne, Hinuera, £l6 6s 3d. There was also an extra heavy yarding of sheep, and as in the case of beef there was a keen demand for all prime mutton. Heavy prime wethers made from £1 16s 6d to £1 18s 9d, a pen of 6 extra special first prize show wethers and ewes from Mr Parry 11. Sutton, Papatoetoe, made £2 19s; medium to heavy prime wethers. £1 14s to £1 16s. light prime wethers, £1 10s to £1 13s; unfinished wethers, £1 Is to £1 9s; extra heavy prime ewes, £1 13s 9d to 1 15s 9d, good prime ewes, £1 10s to £1 13s Gd; lighter fat ewes, £1 4s to £1 8s; unfinished and other ewes, 13s to £1 2s (3075 sold.) Lambs came forward in extra large numbers and included many' lines of light and unfinished. Competition was brisk for all prime lambs. Plain lambs were lower. Extra heavy prime £1 9s to £1 12s; heavy prime, £1 6s to £1 8s Gd; lighter, prime, £1 3s to £1 5s 6d; light, 18s to £1 2s; unfinished and small lambs, 9s to 15s (1136 sold.) Fat and young calves were penned in average numbers. Competition was keen and values were decidedly better than our last report of December 22. Runners made from £5 to £7 19s; vealers, heavy £3 7s Gd to £4 15s, medium £2 10s to £3 ss, lighter £1 10s to £2 7s; small fat calves 16s to £1 Bs, freshdropped 8s to 14s. (129 sold.) There was a large yarding of pigs, which met witli a keen demand, and values were much higher than last report. Store pigs also improved in prices. Choppers, to £7 14s; baconcrs, heavy £6 10s to £7 ss, light to medium £5 10s to £6 7s Gd; porkers, heavy £4 7s Gd to £5 7s Gd, medium £3 15s to £4 ss, light £3 to £3 12s Gd; well-grown stores, to £3 2s; slips, £1 19s to £2 14s; weaners, good to £1 13s, small 18s to £1 10s. Rails, Manurewa, £l3; 10 cows from Mr J. S. Pitch, Karaka. £l2; 20 cows from Mangere, £ll 17s Gd; 16 cows from Papakura, £ll 12s 9d; 6 cows from Mr J. B. Jordan, Kaukapakapa, £l2 10s; 1 cow from Mr R. A. Bent, Ellcrslie, £l7 17s 6d. Calves were penned in good numbers. Competition was keen, prices being on a par with values ruling some two months back. Runners, no extra heavy yarded, made from £6 to £8 18s for a nice-quality yearling heifer from Mr J. S. Pitch, Karaka; vealers, heavy £4 15s to £5 19s, medium £3 to £4 14s, light £1 15s to £2 18s; lighter fat calves 15s to £1 12s, fresh dropped 10s to 14s. Pigs improved on late markets. Heavy baconers sold from £6 18s to £7 10s, light to medium £6 to £6 15s; porkers, heavy £4 8s to £5 15s, medium £3 18s to £4 7s, light £3 to £3 17s; weaners, £1 6s to £1 17s. Sheep were penned in large numbers, being mostly of inferior quality. Competition was keen, with prices on a par with last report for prime quality. Wethers, extra heavy £1 17s 6d to £2 0s Od, heavy prime £1 13s to £1 17s 3d, medium £1 9s 6d to £1 12s 9d, light £1 6s to £1 9s 3d, small and unfinished £1 to £1 5s 9d; ewes, heavy prime £1 10s to £1 13s 6d, medium £1 6s 3d to £1 9s 9d, light £1 2s 6d to £1 6s, unfinished and inferior 10s 6d upwards; hoggets, best £1 9s 9d to £1 14s, medium £1 6s to £1 9s 6d, light £1 4s to £1 5s 9d, unfinished 17s to £1 3s Gd. Lambs were penned in large numbers, and for those of good quality competition was keen. Inferiorly fatted were neglected. Best, £1 5s to £1 10s; medium, £1 2s to £1 4s 9d; light, 18s to £1 Is 9d; inferiorly fatted, 8s to 17s.
