The passage of a train carrying the peace delegates across Hungary to Paris was marked by unending patriotic demonstrations, crowds carrying flags and boards inscribed “Long live thousand-year-old Hungary,” “Transylvania does not belong to the Roumanians.”
NEGOTIATIONS FOR COMPROMISE. SO FAR WITHOUT EFFECT. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received Jan. 18, 5.5 p.m. WASHINGTON, Jan. 7. Senator Underwood has notified the Senate that unless the Treaty deadlock is broken within a week he intends to press a resolution calling on the bipartisan committee to attempt to reach an agreement by compromise. Negotiations are proceeding, but so far without effect.
