NAVAL PROTECTION
FOR PACIFIC AND INDIAN OCEANS. LARGE BRITISH FLEET. LORD JELLICOE’S proposal. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received January S, 7.50 p.m. WASHINGTON, January 6. It is authoritatively stated that when Lord Jcllicoe returns to England m will recommend a large British fleet lor Indian and Pacific waters, consisting o eight battleships of the latest type, eight modern battle cruisers, 10 light cruisers, 40 destroyers, and 40 submarines. The expense of construction and maintenance of this fleet would be borne, partly by the British Dominions and the acceptance of the plan would be at their discretion. Lord Jcllicoe and party will sail on the New Zealand, probably for South Africa. Lord JelUeoe visited the United States Naval Academy, and was entertained by Mr Josephus Daniels. Secretary to the
