LIGHT RAILWAYS
PROVISION FOR WAIKATO. Our Pirongia correspondent reports that at a recent meeting -of the Light Railway League members the proceedings were most enthusiastic. Farmers in all parts of the district now fully realise the tremendous possibiltics for good that will take place in the Waikato as soon as light railway service becomes an accomplished fact. The erection of a very large dried milk factory will shortly be commenced, and it is to be hoped to have the light railways as feeders to the factory from over a very large area of country, and as the cost of transport will be reduced to a minimum, this in itself will mean a big profit to the whole community. The meeting unanimously decided to support the Hamilton and Kawhia Chambers of Commerce, and the Raglan Progressive Association’s progaganda to get the Railway Act amended to substitute the narrow gauge for the present standard gauge. The local members of Parliament are to be approached, asking their support to provide a light railway system in the Waikato at the earliest possible moment.
