THE INFLUENZA
OUTBREAK ON A STEAMER. THREE MEN AFFECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Three members of the crew of the Pateena developed Influenza on the way across from Nelson and Picton, and on arrival of the vessel this morning they were removed to the hospital. Their names are Russell, Hancock and Bairncross. The hospital authorities state that their' condition is not serious. The Pateena is being thoroughly fumigated, and will not be able to leave for Picton and Nelson to-day or Friday. The Moeraki will be sent to Picton only to-day, and an endeavour will be made to send, the Mapourika to Picton and Nelson on Friday. The watersiders have refused to work the Pateena.
Influenza is still prevalent in the Morrinsville district, and the death of two adults from the effects of the disease occurred recently. The majority of cases are of mild type. The doctors strongly advise that care should be taken in all cases of illness. The serious cases generally are those where relapses have occurred following carelessness.
