RESTRICTIONS ON JAPANESE.

(Reuter’s Telegrams.) OTTAWA, January 1. Responding to tho agitation of the returned soldiers, the Government has issued regulations limiting the activities of the Japanese in the fisheries of British Columbia, m which 10 000 are employed. Recently the Japanese had been buying up the canneries extensively, threatening to almost monopolise the industry. The new regulations provide that large scale fishing and canning licenses will hereafter be granted only to the while race. The same number of individual Japanese fishermen will be allowed as last year. but. that, is to re mam ‘he maximum for the future.
