COUNTRY SCHOOL AREAS, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Educational Institute carried a resolution that in' general a country school area should be from live to 20 acres, and should he divided into playgrounds, gardens, ground for children’s horses, and ground to be known as a restricted area for the use of the teacher. A proposal, afflrmihg that ao portion of the school glebe should be allowed to be leased by the Education Board or School Committee was struck out.

CADETG AND DRILL,

Air J. F. Foss (Paluat.ua) moved: “That this Institute affirms the principle that the Education depot should control all classes of pupils held during school hours.” The reference in the -remit was to the military training cadets in schools when, under the present regulations, the pupils in the schools came under the control of offi- . cials of the Defence Department and the boys attending drill could be marked absent from the school. The general opinion voiced by the delegates was that though the representatives of the Defence Department hod power to call out pupils in the secondary departments of the schools, as a rule that power was not exercised without consideration.

It was agreed that due notice of the time of drills should be given, so that arrangements might be made beforehand with the time-table. Boys attending drill could not legally he marked present at the school. The remit was adopted. Fixing Salaries.

The conference re-affirmed last conference’s resolution relative to salaries, namely, “That the salary schedule shall substitute for payment a schedule based on efficiency, on service, on educational status and on professional and domestic representatives. ”
