GERMANY'S ARMED FORGES
STILL TOTAL OVER 1,000,000. CONTRAVENTION OF TREATY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received Jan. 4, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 2. It is authoritatively estimated that tho present strength of the German armed forces is over 1,000,000, composed of an army of 400,000, a navy of 12,000, temporary volunteers or army reservists 150,000 to 200,000 civic guards 300,000 to 400,000, armed constabulary 40,000 to 50,000. The last three are controlled by the Ministry of the Interior, and are regarded as a contravention of the Peace Treaty, and this fact had been notified to Germany by the Supreme Council.
