THAT BRASS BAND
A TARANAKI INCIDENT. A certain gentleman having recently moved into the district (says a Taranaki paper) had as yet no experience of that terrible scourge known as the town’s brass band. Consequently, when,, a few days before Christmas, a man called upon him and informed him that the band would play “a selection of carols hi front of certain houses,” lie had no objection to Ids name being added to the list. He was surpised, however, when the band didn't turn up, but he was simply astounded when, on Boxing Day, his visitor called again "for that little donation I” It was the visitor’s turn to be surpised. “My dear sir,” lie gasped, “if our band had —er—troubled you, do you think r.should have had the colossal impudence to call on you tins morning? Your name was on the list, consequently you—er —escaped. Perhaps, sir, being somewhat of a stranger, you don’t know our band? Ah I”—very sadly—‘‘in that case, sir, you’ll never know what you have missed!”
