Sir Hamar Greenwood, Under-Secre-tary to the Home Office, in an interview,, said that Britain and the Empire never entered the Year with brighter prospects of prosperity. Reports from Consuls and diplomatic officers in every part of the world show that production here is far behind what other require from us. No country has a better commercial 'outlook, and if we can avoid strikes we should become more prosperous than ever. 1920 should be the first of a series of great yeabs. ■ A BOOM PREDICTED. The Daily Mail, forecasting a trade boom in 1920, states that over £250,000,000 of new captal has been raised for British industrial purposes since the armistice.
