FINANCIAL STATEMENT
NOT YET COMPLETED. SIR J. G. WARD’S CHALLENGE. SPIRITED REJOINDER EXPECTED. (Special to Times.) WE L LIN GTO N, Tue s d ay. It is semi-offlcially announced that (ho Financial Statement will not be presented this week. The mere accounts are not the occasion of the delay. These were prepared by the Hon." A. M. Myers in readiness for Sir Joseph Ward’s return to the Dominion, and Sir Joseph Ward had given the finishing touches to them before he left, office. But Mr Massey is putting forward bis “policy” in the statement, and on the eve of an election with a recently reconstructed Ministry and a number of conflicting interests to be reconciled this is not a |agk that can be hurried through ih a spare halfhour. Forecasts of the policy may be had anywhere, but none of them bear the imprint of authority and most of the critcism that is flying about is much beside the mark. That the Reform leader will make a spirited retort to Sir Joseph Ward’s challenge, however, may be taken for granted, and in this respect political progress is not likely to be the loser by the disruption of the coalition.
