COST OF LIVING
ARTIFICIALLY MAINTAINED.
MR WILSON'S VIEWS. CONTINUED CONTROL URGED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received August 9, 12.55 p.m. WASHINGTON, August 8. Mr Wilson, addressing Congress on the high cost of Irving, said the present prices of foodstuffs were artificially and deliberately maintained by vicious practices. He recommended that food control should continue and that Congress should exclude the shipment of goods to States not.complying with the food control regulations, with a penalty for profiteering. He also advocated the '• marking of goods .in such a way that the prices would show the cost of production. He urged the signing of peace in -order to allow the country to.return to a peace basis and deal with peace problems. Unless prompt action is taken, the cost of living would endlessly increase.
