S. Peter's Women's Guild, at itsannual meeting yesterday, passed a vote of condolence with one of its. members, Mrs Yule, in the death of. her little daughter Irene. There are three candidates for the • Te Aroha Mayoralty—Messrs R. Coulter. J. M. Bell and H. Jackson, all. ex-Ccluncillors. The Wanganui Chronicle records the death oL Air Thomas Farrah, who passed away at the age of 79 years. The deceased was one of Wanganui's oldest settlers, having come to'the town over half a century ago. For a; short period he was private secretary to Sir Julius Vogel. The deceased gentleman . had been in failing health for some years. . Signor Meichal Orlando, Prime % Minister of Italy, visited Australia in 1902 j While in Melbourne he' met his., present wife, who was then a waitress , at a, coffee palace. Her personal ; - charm so attracted him that he became ■ engaged, and soon after they were married. Mr. S. Steele, of Ruknhia, has received intimation from the Minister of Defence that his son, Sergeant J. Steele, has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for valuable services rendered in connection with the war. In a letter Lieut. Hector Steele, another son, stated that he had received his Military Cross from the King at Buckingham Palace on March--Bth. __;
