MATABJATA RACING CLUS. SUCCESSFUL INAUGURAL GATHERING. The non-totalisator race gatheriag of the Matamata Club was held yesterday on Mr T. Bottomley's property, situated about two miles liom the township The club was unfortunate in the fact that rain fell intermittently during the late morning horns, mil considerably affected the attendance. Under the circumstances the pationage was highly satisfactory, and it 's pleasing to indicate that the club ~ill make a substantial profit )ji of the meeting. The fields in the six races on the programme were in numbers and quality commensurate with the liberal prize money, while the racing was of an interesting nature. The management of the meeting was highly satisfactory and special praise is due the efforts of the secretary, Mr A. G. Yardley, in this connection. Mr A. The start was a good one, Keystone being the first to get clear. At the end of a furlong Hokemai was in the van, followed by Silver Lode and Keystone. Rounding from the straight Hokemai ran off with his lightweignt boy. Monopoie took the lead along the hack, with Silver Lode and Keystone as his nearest attendants. Saloon' was moving up rapidly through the runners at this stage. Monopoie lead Keystone into the straight, the former' carrying on to win by three parts of a length, while Silver Lode made a forward run over the last half furlong and beat Keystone by half a length for second money.
