PICTURES FOR CHILDREN.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l attended the matinee on Saturday afternoon with my children with tiic object of allowing them some amusement by seeing the “Charlie Chaplin” 111 m. There was a very large number of children present, but I regret to say that for an hour preceding the showing of the Chaplin picture the children were subjected or allowed to sec a picture of a highly sensational and melodramatic character, and which was, in my opinion, quite unsuitable for a juvenile audience. It is quite probable that the majority of adults present in charge of the children would have little hesitation in agreeing with me when I say that if this is the type of picture to be regularly presented to the Juveniles—and I have "reason to believe that these dramas are frequently shown at matinees—that it is a great pity that suitable arrangements cannot be made to show a series of pictures that will leave a more healthy impression on the minds of the children. This apparently can only come about by force of public opinion. 1 would certainly like some abler pen than mine to take this matter up, and so make it possible for our children to be better catered for in the way of pictures than exists at present.—l am, etc., PARENT. |
