HAMILTON BOROUGH' COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. *

The ordinary meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council look place last night, the Deputy-Mayor (Mr W. F. Mason) presiding. There were also present: Crs. Tristram, Tidd, Gosling, Fraser Smith, Howden, Tombs, Herbert, Young, Lafferty and .lolly. Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor (Mr J. R. Fow) and Cr Snell.

The Acting-Prime Minister wrote in reply to the Council’s recommendation that all enemy aliens interned in New Zealand should be deported, that the question could not be decided in New Zealand: it was an international one.—Received. The Rigiits of Childhood League, Auckland, wrote that a conference woo'd ha t'-'ld ,al an rally date, to which all social bodies were invited to send delegates.—Received. Mr J. P. Roberts, River road, wrote that Mr Monckton was quite agreeable to the 'footway fronting section, in Pembroke street being continued upon his property.— Referred to Mr Monckton for confirmation. The Public Wotks Department forwarded a new license re electric lines for the amalgamated districts of the Borough of Frankton, the town district of Frankton, and the Borough of Hamilton, and asked to he notified of any alterations or additions required.— Referred to Legal and Finance Committee.

The Railway Department asked that the lithograph of the proposed railway cattle yards at Frankton be marked.— Referred to the secretary of the Saleyards Committee. Mr C. G. Davis asked that a hluegum tree on the footpath in Abbotsford street be cut down, as the leaves fell and blocked the spouting of his house. —Referred to Works Committer.

The Hastings Borough Council asked support of a resolution urging that the Governor shoo'd be se'ected from the pcop'e of the Dorn nion. and that General Sir Andrew Russell be tecommended for the position.—Receive.!. Mrs Holden, Lake House, drew attention to the bad state of the small portion of borough road leadmg to her residence, and suggested that a culvert be put in before the wet weather set in. Last year the road was practically impassable.—. Supervisor to attend to the matter. Mr W. Osborne asked the Council to provide the filling in connection with a road drain in front of his property, as he wanted to make an entrance to liis section. He would supply the pipes.—Referred to supervisor and Works Committee, with power to act. Messrs James McFaiiane and Galbraith Wratten asked for drivers’ licenses.—Granted. Mr D. F. Lockwood applied for transfer of tenancy of Town Hall to Messrs Treloar and Tidd.—Granted. The new management thought it unfair that the hall should he let more than once a week to outsiders. There were three nights booked for Easter week, which seemed hardiy a fair thing.—lt was resolved that the hall he not let to outsiders for more than one night a wee 1 .-. Me R. Higgott asked thai tho footpath fronting his house in Myrtle street be tarred and sanded; also that a lamp he erected in the dip of Ts Aroha street before the wet weather set is.—Referred to Works Committee.

Mr J. Chapman, Firth street, asked permission to use the unformed portion of the street for running a cow. —The Council had no objection.

Mr A. Morton, Norton road, asked that owners of certain sections should he compelled to clear the debris of cut hedges, which had been allowed fo lie.—Referred to supervisor.
