AUCKLAND MARKETS. Tkdgcty ancl Co., Ltd,, report having I hold tlioir weekly fat stock sale at Westfield on Wednesday, as under;— Heel'; .Moderate yarding; prices wore a shade advanced on late rates. Prims ox sold at £2 12s per 1001 b, medium f/uality £2 5s to £2 8s; cow, £2 5s to £2 10s. Veal: Small yarding, and prices wore better than last week. Runners made £7; ordinary suckers £2 14s to £3 12s, others 9s to £2 4s. Mutton: Medium yarding, and prices wore about 2s higher than last week; good wethers made from £3 17s to £1 19s; heavy quality ewes to 31s, light 22s to 255. Lamb: Average yarding, which sold at late rates. Good quality lambs 225, medium 15s to 20s, others 11s to £l. Pork: Rig yarding, and prices were about the same as last week. Heavy haeorers to £ll ss; porkers, £2 5s to £3 15s.

At Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday beef was penned in smaller numbers than usual; competition was keen, and prices improved. Choice ox to £2 11s, others £2 8s to £2 10s; cow and heifer hqef sold at from £2 4s to £2 9s per 1001 b. Steers sold at from £l4 5s to £2l 15s; cows and heifers sold at from £8 10s to £l4 17s (id. Some of the averages were: 8 steers from Mr B. Reid, Waercnga, £2O ss; 7 steers from Mr N. Short, Matamata, £l7 16s 9d; 3 18-months steers from same vendor, £l2 ss; 8 steers from Waikato, £l6 ss; 7 cows from Mr Jas. Taylor, Cambridge, £ll 11s 3d; 3 18njonlhs heifers, same vendor, £lO. Calves came forward in small numbers, and improved 10s to £1 a bead for good vealers and runners, the latter especially being short of requirements. Runners sold from £5 5s to £7 10s; heavy -vealers, £3 10s to £4 17s 6d, medium £2 12s to £3 ss, light £1 12s to £2 10s; fresh-dropped, 4s to £1 ss. Sheep were penned m scarcely average numbers. The market showed a firmer tone, and prices improved on late sales. Pant wethers, £1 5s to £2, medium £1 10s 9d to £1 14s 9d: small and un. finished £1 4s 9d to £1 9s 9d; best ewes, £1 8s to £1 14s Gd, medium £1 3s to £1 7s 9d, small 18s to £1 2s 9d. Lambs were penned in average numbers, and sold at late rates. Best, £1 5s to £1 9s 9d, medium 18s to £1 4s 9d, small 13s to 17s 9d; 35 lambs from Mr TV. Under, Maraetai, £1 9s 4d. Pigs were yarded in average numbers, and continue firm for ail butchers’ sorts at late improved values. No choppers yarded. Medium to heavy haconers £5 to £6 2s 6d. light haconers, £4 5s to £4 19s: heavy porkers. £3 15s to £4 4s, medium £3 5s to £3 14s, small £2 5s to £3 4s: weaners fgood), 16s to £lls; others (small), 9s to 13s.

Messrs Alfred liuckland and Sons report:— On Wednesday, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, we penned fat cattle to the number of 323 head, comprising 244 steers, 75 cows and heifers, and 4 bulls. ' There was improved demand, with a further advance in values, prime ox beef being very firm. Choice ox sold to £2 12s; prime ox, £2 9s to £2 11s; rough and plain beef, £1 15s to £2 ss; cow and heifer beef, £2 to £2 7s per 1001 b. Steers ranged in price from £lO 10s to £22, the latter price for a steer from Kereone Estate, Moirinsville; cows and heifers, £7 10s to £l6; bulls, £8 to £l6 15s. The highest averages for steers were 8 from Mr Wm. Taylor, Greenhill, Te Awamutu, £2l 6s 3d; 7 from the KereoncEstate, Morrinsville, £2O 14s 3d; 8 from Mr A. L. Hunt, Te Kuiti, £lB 11s 3d; 8 from Mr W. 'C. Ring, Hinuera, £lB 2s 2d; 9 from Messrs Kirkuess llros., Matamata, £l7 15s 7d; 9 from Mr F. Potts, Pirongia, £l7 10s; 15 from Orakci. £l6 TOs; 9 from Mr C. Hill, Ohinewai, £l6 16s lid; 9 from Messrs Costall Bros., Waharoa, £ls 4s 9d; 10 cows from Mr Jas. Taylor, Bardowic, Cambridge, £l3 5s 9d. There was only a moderate yarding of sheep, and a big proportion were of inferior. quality. Prices for these remained unchanged, but all prime mutton was considerably firmer. Heavy prime wethers, £1 17s to £2; no extra heavy prime- wethers penned; medium to heavy prime wethers, £1 13s to £1 16s 6d; light fat wethers, £1 8s Od to £1 12s; unfinished wethers, £1 3s to £1 9s; extra heavy prime ewes, £1 10s to £1 14s 6d; good fat ewes, £1 5s to £1 9s<j lighter fat ewes, £1 Is to £1 4s; other ewes, 10s 6d to 19s. (1102 sheep sold.) The 299 lambs that came forward were required and met with a keen sale- Best heavy prime lambs, £1 8s to £1 11s. A pen of 7 extra good shorn black-faced lambs from Mr W. Duder, Maractai, 'made the record price of £2 0s 3d-; lighter fat lambs, £1 4s to £1 7s 6d; Tight fat lambs. £1 Is to £1 3s; unfinished, 14s to 18s; stores, 8s to 12s (id. ‘The 61 fat and young calves fully maintained last week’s improved rates. Runners made from £5 15s to £7 2s (id for an 18month steer ; veaiers, ’heavy £4 to £5 ss, medium £3 to £3 18s, light £2 to £2 18s, small and fresli dropped 6s to £1 15s. There was again a full market of pigs, including a large number of slips and weaners.. Competition was keen for all Tat pigs; strong weaners were also wanted, but fhe weaker ones were neglected.
