CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
IriE STRATFORD CASE. WELLINGTON Saturday. Counsel for Captain Hawkins takes exception to the wording of a telegram from Stratford (appearing on nage 2), re a libel action against his client. Captain Hawkins is represented as a temperance lecturer, whereas it. is stated be was not employed in that capacity, and had only casuallv given one lecture by re<|iiost wit-hout payment. The message also stated that- Cantain Hawkins had insinuated that plaintiff had given a drum to a band, but as a matter fact be know nothing about the plaintiff or the gift of any drum, and it was clearly by accident that Ingeneral words fitted plaintiff.
