In the latest casualty list John A. Hicks, of Cambridge, is reported wounded. A Press Association cablegram states that a Military Medal has been awarded to Lieut. H. t. McClure. Mrs B. E. Taylor has received word that her husbanil, Private B. E. Taylor, has -been admitted to a hospital in France suffering from gunshot wounds and a fracture of the right leg. Lance-Corporal AY. G. Bowers, D.C.M., M.M., son of Mr H. A. Bowers ot Morrinsville, has arrived home invalideu on account of a wound in the leg. He left with the Bth Reinforcements. He received the D.C.M. on March 27. IMS, and the M.M. on January 24, 1918. Mr R. Stevens, a returned soldier, who took up a section on the Reynolds Settlement, died suddenly on Wednesday. He has seen continuous fighting since going forward with the 22nd Reinforcements, of which his brother Jack, who was killed at Passchendaele, was also a member. Another brother (Sergeant W. H. Allen), lately of lite Hamilton Defence Staff, and a returned Main Body man, wounded in the early days of the war,' is now on active service with the 37th Reinforcements, after spending several months on the physical training staff at Ci camp. A younger brother (Corporal Herbert Allen) also completed training with this reinforcement, but was rejected after a severe illness. The only remaining brother of military age is on service with the Medical Corps of the Canadian Army. Captain Ragg and family were entertained by Mercer residents prior !o leaving Mercer to reside in Hamilton. Mr Jl. S. Valentine, chairman of the Town Board, occupied the chair, and on behalf of the townspeople presented Captain and Mrs Ragg with a silver tea service, and Miss Ragg with a silver wristlet watch. The chairman, in making the presentation, referred to the many good qualities of the guests, and remarked that the crowded attendance was an indication of the many friends the genial skipper and his family had made in Mercer. He wished them the best of good luck and assured them they left the district with the heartiest good wishes of Hie entire community. Rev. ,). Vaughan and Mr .1. T. Cillibrant spoke in supportof the chairman's remarks. Captain Ragg, in thanking the residents for the presents and their good wishes, wittily excused himeslf for not making a long speech, and expressed the hope that lie might often see Mercer frien Is at his new home. Musical items wive rendered by local ladies and gentlemen during, the evening, and dancing was engaged in to music supplied by Mr Webster, of Hamilton. The hall was very prettily decorated for the occasion, and the function was one of the best attended and most successful gatherings ever held in Mercer.
