TAMAHERE ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Tamahere Hoad Board was held on Monday. The chairman, Mr T. Clarkin, presided, anil the following members were also present: Messrs W. G. Phillipps, W. J. Trubshaw, \\. E. Clark, and \v. Lee Martin. By special resolution it wis decided to adopt schedules 2 and 3 of the Noxious We<>ds Act in their ontiretv. Mr Martin moved the notice standing in his name, "That the resolution on the minutes that no sand he sold to the ratepayers be rescinded." This was agreed to, and the fallowing motion was then carried: "That a royalty of 2s Od per yard he charged for sand from the Board's pits and only to be removed under the supervision of the foreman, to whom all applications for sand must he made, a deposit of £3 to accompany each application, but this amount to he returned if the pits are left in a condition satisfactory to the foreman." An amendment by Mr Martin, seconded by Mr Clarkin, that the charge be £1 and £1 respectively was lost. Mr Bye presented a petition signed by 50 ratepayers requesting the Board to take a tally of the traffic on the roads for one week, with a view to finding out whether the erection of toll-gates would be warranted. The Board considered the question, and it was decided lo inform the petitioners that the Board are still of the opinion that they would not he justified, considering the state of the finances, in incurring the expense necessary to take the tally A motion hy.Mr Martin that the Board are prepared to expend £ls towards the taking of the tally failed to find a seconder.

The secretary of the Employers' Association, Auckland district, wrote that the labourers were applying for a new award, asking for a considerable increase in wages.
