PANIC ON BERLIN EXCHANGE
RESULT OF WILSON'S REPLY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received October 17, 10.33 am 'AMSTERDAM, October 16. There is a panic on the Berlin Stock Exchange as the result of Mr Wilson's reply. It is announced that the Supreme Command will meet during the week- l end to deliberate upon mobilisation of the national strength and raising the military age. STATEMENT IN THE COMMONS. PIECEMEAL DISCUSSION UNDESIRABLE. Received October 17, 10.33 a.m. LONDON, October 16. Mr Bonar Law, in the House of Commons, replying to Mr Houston, said it was undesirable to discuss piecemeal the conditions on which alone an armistice can be granted to Germany. Replying to Mr Runciman, he said he coulii not discuss the GermanAmerican communications until a definite decision had been taken. (Reuter's Telegrams.) Received October 17, 1.30 p.m. LONDON, October 16. Mr Winston Churchill, Minister for Munitions, speaking at Manchester, said the Allies wholeheartedly endorsed Mr Wilson's reply. GERMAN PEOPLE GIVE UP THEIR OVERTURES SINCERE. (Reuter's Telegrams.) Received October 17, 1.55 p.m VANCOUVER, October 16. A London message states that Mr A J. Balfour, S tary of State for Foreign Affairs, speaking at the National Lih_ral Club, said that Germany's overtures are sincere. They come from people who have given un. Amsterdam advices say that Germany's reply to Mr Wilson, which is expected to-nighT, will accept his tf-rmp. A movement has been started in Berlin for the immediate discontinuance of submarine operations.
