DISTRICT NEWS
WHATAWHATA. TENNIS CLUB. The local club was favoured with excellent weather fur the opening of the season. Several visitors attended from Hamilton, and there was a good muster of local players. The courts were in good order for the time of year, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. TELEPHONES. Mr Grant, having given up the Party lines' switchboard, it has ben installed at Mr F. Rothwell's, a goodly number of those interested turning out to carry out the necessary work. .Mr C. Walters, who has acted as secretary t'or the lines, has gone, to camo and Mr •T. Sutton has l>ecn appointed secretary Messrs Livingstone, Sandos, Warn, Lindsay and Carlinson are acting as a committee of the suhseriliors. RETURNED SOLDIERS. Mr F. Higginson, who has been on active service for a considerable time. has returned to the district, and his many friends hope to see him soon completely restored to health. Mr E. W. Shepherd, who formerly resided here, and who left with the Main Body, has returned on furlough, and is visiting his family in the Whangarei district.
