RETREATING ENEMY HARASSED
BY BRITISH AVIATORS. RAILWAY JUNCTION BOMBED. (Australian, N.Z. and Reuter.) Received October 12, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, October 11. Sir Douglas Haig's aviation report states that our low fliers with bombs and machine-gun (Ire caused destruction and ciinfusion in the columns of the retreating enemy. We bombed the railway .junction at Mons, Valenciennes and Lille, securing direct bits. Nine British machines are missing. Night Hying was impossible. NUMEROUS FRENCH RECONNAISSANCES. ENEMY CONCENTRATIONS. SUCCESSFUL RESULTS ATTAINED. AGAINST TROOPS AND CONVOYS. Received October 12, 9.20 a.m LONDON, October 11. A French communique states that despite a fog on Wednesday observing aeroplanes made numerous rcconnaisances far in the enemy territory. Great concentrations of troops were reported, and they were attacked by massed squadrons of aeroplanes, who dropped 33 tons of bombs, and fired thousands of cartridges, with successful results on the troops and convoys. During these operations 21 enemy machines were brought down. The fog was denser at night when only five and a-half tons were dropped on various stations.
