WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY (MEETING. At the ordinary meeting of the W'aikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, held in the Board room, Hamilton yesterday, there were present: Messrs Bailey (in the chair) C. Johnstone, Boddie, McCaw, Dickinson, G. Edf:ecunilie, Wagstaff, Hill, Paterson, Seavill Blackman, Kay, Tristram, Byburn and Teasdale; also the Medical Superintendent, Dr Douglas. AMBULANCES. The Acting Inspector-General of Hospitals wanted to know what the Board's requirements were likely to be in ■ the matter of ambulances, in view of the possibility of obtaining same cheaply after the war, as so many ambulances now used for war purposes are likely to be thrown upon the market.— it was resolved to order two ambulances. The South Canterbury Board offered for sale a light four-wheel horse ambulance van at £3O. —Received. LEASES OF SECTIONS. Messrs MacDiarmid and Mears asked the Board's consent to the transfer of Allotment 66, Parish of Pukete, containing over 16 acres, from Allen Bell to W. McHarrie. —Granted. The secretary reported that he could not recommend that the surrender of lease of sections 101 and 103, Hamilton East, held by Mrs Graham, should be granted.—The report was adopted, and it was decided that the lessee be asked to remove the furze on the uppf iitn THE WATER SUPPLY. Messrs Warren and Bleohynden submittal a sketch plan, including a water tower and tank, to hold 23,250 gallons. This would involve an additional ex. penditure of £2500. The present water supply was barely adequate for the hospital requirements. The capacity of the existing tank was 14,000 gallons—alwut one day's supply, and probably less in summer. The water question was a serious one. The estimated cost would be £2500.

Mr Johnstone thought it would lie waste of money to build another tower. They had plenty of water in the river to draw upon by pumping. In reply to Mr Edgecumlie, Mr Warlen stated that tho present pump was working only 4j hours. It was resolved that the House Committee go into the matter with the architect and the engineer, and report to the Hoard. NEW BAKEHOUSE AND OVEN. Messrs Warren and Rlechyndcn estimated the cost of the proposed new bakehouse and oven at £950, in addition to the original estimate of £5500 for the kitchen, making a total of £6-150. It was mentioned that the nuinl)er of loaves to he baked would . probably increase to 200 daily.—The architects were instructed to incorporate the bakehouse and oven in the plans of the new building. HOSPITAL ROAD. Mr S. B. Sims, enclosed certificate for payment of 75 per cent, on the work done bv the contractor on the approach road to the hospital. He had taken down the roadway to the amended levels, and tho metal was coming to hand. Unfortunately, the wet weather had made the surface too soft to roll, and the metal in the meantime wag being stacked.—Passed for pavment. GENERAL. The Department of Public Health asked that all claims for the treatment of soldiers' dependents be furnished on one voucher. He mentioned that a claim was recently passed consisting of 65 separate vouchers.—Received. Mr S. A. Cook, Otornlinnga, forwarded cheque for £ll 6s 9d, being further money collected by him on behalf of Nurse Main's subsidy.—Received. A resident of Ngaruawahia wrote that ho was unable to make nnv offer in connection with account (£4O) for the treatment of his «on, who is still a helpless cripple.—Decided to wipe off the account. The Holism and Finance Committee flecomm.ondod that the residents of Otorohanrra provide a trap for Nurs« Main.—The recommendation was adented.
